HyrSelf Functional Medicine | Root Cause Healing with Dr. Peterson

At HyrSelf Functional Medicine, we believe true healing comes from understanding and supporting the body as an intelligent, interconnected whole — not just treating isolated symptoms. Led by Dr. Peterson, our practice is grounded in time-tested principles of natural healing that respect how the body actually works, moves, and restores itself.

   DeJarnette’s Laws of Working Health

Dr. DeJarnette was a smart doctor who studied how the body works when it’s sick or hurt. He noticed some big true ideas that happen again and again in the body. From these ideas, he made a list of important rules (called the “working laws”) to help understand and fix health problems.

Here are those rules explained in simple words:

  • You can’t really understand one part of the body by itself. You have to look at how it works with the whole body.
  • No part of the body is separate. Every part is connected to and depends on the other parts.
  • No part can live or work all by itself, without the rest of the body.
  • Movement is life, and life is movement. If something is alive, it moves!
  • Since your body is alive, every part of it is always moving a little bit, all the time.
  • This movement happens in a smooth, matching way from one part to another. It includes special body chemicals that help control things like blood flow, hormones, and your immune system (the body’s defense team). These chemicals travel through your blood and work together as one big team.
  • If one part loses its smooth teamwork and timing with the rest of the body, it still moves—but now the movement is wrong or out of place compared to everything else.
  • The only thing that makes force (or pressure) happen is resistance. This can include when body parts or receivers resist those special chemicals.
  • (This idea is repeated because it’s important:) When a part loses its teamwork, it keeps moving, but that movement doesn’t fit with the rest of the body anymore.
  • After the main problem (called the “primary lesion”) starts, everything the body does next is to protect itself and defend against more harm.
  • The body keeps up these defenses until the main problem gets fixed.
  • A tiny bit of the right help or touch can give the biggest good results.
  • Short, quick treatments wake things up and make blood vessels get smaller (called constriction).
  • Long treatments calm things down and make blood vessels get bigger (called dilation).
  • At the start of any treatment (the first part), blood vessels usually tighten up. But if the treatment lasts more than about 30 seconds, the vessels relax and open up because the nerves get tired.
  • When blood vessels open wide from being tired, you get extra blood flow (called hyperemia).
  • When blood vessels stay tight, you get less blood flow (called anemia or ischemia).

Isolated Parts & Forced Fixes: The Complete Disconnected Laws of Symptom Management

Here are the “opposite rules” that Big Pharma and Big Medicine promote explained in easy words:

  • You can understand one part of the body all by itself. No need to think about the whole body.
  • Every part of the body can be kept separate from the others, like it’s in its own box.
  • Each part can work and exist on its own, without needing the rest of the body.
  • If it is low, make it high.
  • If it is high, make it low.
  • Stillness is okay, and life doesn’t always need movement.
  • The body can be still and quiet in some parts, without constant moving.
  • Movements in the body don’t have to match up or work together. Special chemicals like hormones, nerve signals, and immune helpers are treated as separate things that don’t team up—they just travel in the blood doing their own jobs.
  • If one part moves out of step with the others, that’s fine—it’s just doing its thing, even if it doesn’t fit.
  • Force or pressure doesn’t come from resistance—it’s just there without any reason.
  • (Repeated for importance:) When a part doesn’t match up, no big deal—keep going like normal.
  • After the main problem starts, the body doesn’t need to defend itself— it might just ignore it or let it be.
  • No need for defenses to keep going; things can stay broken without fixing the main issue.
  • You need a lot of strong help or medicine to get any results at all.
  • Short treatments don’t do much—they might not change blood vessels at all.
  • Long treatments also don’t help much—they keep things the same without opening or closing blood vessels.
  • Treatments don’t start by tightening blood vessels, and they don’t relax them after 30 seconds—nerves don’t get tired or change.
  • Extra blood flow isn’t from vessels opening wide— it might not happen at all.
  • Low blood flow isn’t from tight vessels—problems like that are just fixed one symptom at a time.

Hering’s Law of Cure

Hering’s Law of Cure explains how the body heals itself naturally, following four key patterns:

  1. From Above Downward: Healing starts at the top of the body and moves downward. For example, if you have headaches and knee pain, the headaches may get better first, then the knee pain later.
  2. From Within Outward: Healing moves from the inside of your body (like internal organs) to the outside (like the skin). For instance, internal problems like lung or stomach issues may improve first, and then external symptoms like rashes or skin conditions will clear up.
  3. From More Important to Less Important Organs: The body heals the most vital organs first, such as the heart, liver, or brain. Once these critical organs are healthy, it then moves to less important areas, like your muscles or skin.
  4. In Reverse Order of Symptoms: The body heals by reversing the order in which symptoms appeared. For example, if you first had digestive problems and later developed a skin rash, the rash might go away first, followed by the digestive issues.

In summary, healing happens from the top of the body to the bottom, from internal organs to the skin, prioritizing the most important organs, and in the reverse order of when symptoms first showed up.
